The first woman to graduate with MD and PhD degrees in medical informatics, a multi-disciplinary field that addresses problems in information management in biology and medicine. In August 2006, she began as an assistant professor of surgery and Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt, after completing a pediatric surgery fellowship at Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital.
