Delta Gamma Mourns the Loss of Barbara Bartlett Probst, Gamma Upsilon-Wichita State

Our Delta Gamma hearts are heavy as we share the passing of Barbara Bartlett Probst, Gamma Upsilon-Wichita State. She passed peacefully at home on November 7, 2024, with family at her side.

Barb’s Delta Gamma contributions through her leadership roles within the Fraternity and Foundation are many, but perhaps most significantly, she will be remembered for sharing her gift of music with sisters. Her Delta Gamma music legacy began as a collegian at the 1958 Convention in Miami, Florida, when the sister chosen to play the piano was under quarantine at the hotel with measles. Barb stepped forward and exclaimed that she knew all of the DG songs and would love to play the piano for the Convention chorus. And so, her Delta Gamma music journey began — for six decades at Conventions, one could find her up front at the piano keys. Her passion for DG music paired with 66 years of service to the Fraternity, Foundation and National Panhellenic Conference, serving as: Fraternity VP: Membership (1986-90) and VP: Development (1990-94), Phoenix Convention Chair (2000), NPC Delegate (1986-90 and again from 1999-2013) and Foundation Ambassador (2016-24).

In 2022, Barb was honored with the Delta Gamma Anchor Award for her many musical achievements that spread across the entire Fraternity and Panhellenic world. Barb believed the songs of Delta Gamma are a significant thread of our sisterhood and heritage which binds us to memories and reminds us of our connections. It was Barb's goal to ensure our music lives on and resonates in personal, unique ways and perpetuates our sense of belonging. She achieved that goal by having Delta Gamma songs digitally recorded and housed online to make the music accessible and therefore harmonizing sisters all over the world today and for many years to come.

Barb’s music legacy will live on forever; she is a true champion and mentor who holds a special place in my heart for giving me the confidence to rise and lead at higher DG levels,” said close friend and fellow Phoenix alumnae group member, Mary Anne Ruman Lachenmaier, Alpha Pi-Arizona.

While serving on Fraternity Council in the early 1990s, Barb headed teams to extend Delta Gamma onto seven campuses. Chapters existing thanks to Barb’s leadership include Zeta Rho-Ohio, Zeta Nu-Montevallo and Zeta Xi-UAB, just to name a few.

In 2007, Barb was honored with the coveted Betty Gilmore Woods Award for Greek Achievementfrom the Association of Fraternal Leadership & Values (AFLV). This honor is bestowed on an alumna who fosters positive change to advance the fraternal movement.

Former Delta Gamma Foundation Executive Director Roxanne Ebner LaMuth, Epsilon-Ohio State, said, “Barb will go down in Delta Gamma history as an incredible leader who empowered others to lead. However, it was her contagious energy and beautiful spirit that had a positive and powerful impact on me personally, as well as on thousands of DG sisters throughout North America. The twinkle in her eye and the way she radiated warmth and kindness always put a magical spin on any DG project or task you happened to be working with her on at the time.”

Former Fraternity President Maureen “Reen” Sweeney Syring, Nu-Idaho, recalls, “During a Council meeting in Columbus, Ohio, the Kappas invited us to join them for lunch and a tour of their headquarters. After lunch we sat in their “sitting room” and in the corner was a beautiful antique piano. Before long, Barbara moseyed over to the piano and promptly began to play Anchors Aweigh! None of us could resist and joined in singing loudly the words we all love and cherish — in harmony!”

Delta Gamma sends our sincere condolences to Jerry, Barb’s husband of 65 years, and to her family she dearly loved.

We invite you to honor Barb’s legacy with a gift to the Delta Gamma Foundation Barbara Bartlett Probst Honorary Scholarship, established by Barb’s family and friends to honor her contributions to Delta Gamma. If you would like to support this fund, please choose “Other” when making your gift, and note “Barb Bartlett Probst Honorary Scholarship” in the “Comments” section. Thank you for remembering Barb in this special way. She will be missed.

[COLUMBUS, OH] — Delta Gamma Foundation announces the successful conclusion of Anchoring the Future: The Campaign for Delta Gamma, its first-ever comprehensive fundraising campaign. The organization surpassed its ambitious $50 million goal by raising an extraordinary $58,133,064, made possible through the generous support of 14,426 donors. The Campaign was guided by a Cabinet of 17 dedicated Delta Gamma alumnae, whose leadership was instrumental in achieving this unprecedented result.

The campaign recorded numerous noteworthy achievements:

  • Establishment of 61 new endowed funds
  • 100% participation from both collegiate and alumnae chapters
  • Largest gift received in the Foundation’s history ($5.5 million)

"When we launched this Campaign six years ago, we hoped Delta Gammas would respond with heartfelt enthusiasm for investing in our mission,” said Campaign Co-Chairs Laurie Watson Kight, Delta Kappa-South Florida and Shaun Fisher Young, Mu-Missouri. “The success of this Campaign reflects the deep commitment of our members to Delta Gamma's values and future, which will allow our sisterhood to do even more in the pursuit of doing good."

The Campaign strategically focused on four key areas:

  1. Individual Member Support: Expanding academic awards, need-based scholarships, and individual assistance programs.
  1. Philanthropy and Unrestricted Giving: Strengthening Delta Gamma's commitment to Service for Sight and community support.
  1. Capital Initiatives: Creating a new Leadership Training Center, Delta Gamma Archives Museum, renovation of Executive Offices, and enhancing chapter facilities.
  1. Training and Programming: Investing in comprehensive social responsibility, health and well-being, and leadership development programs for collegians and alumnae.

Jenn Stuart Ragusa, Zeta Lambda-UC Riverside, Chair of the Delta Gamma Foundation Board of Trustees, says, "Anchoring the Future represents more than a fundraising achievement – it's a testament to the enduring strength of our sisterhood. The astonishing generosity of our sisters, chapters and friends has positioned Delta Gammas to lead, grow and do good on a larger scale than ever before, securing Delta Gamma's ability to enrich the lives of our members and expand our philanthropic impact for generations to come."

This comprehensive initiative was conceived as both a celebration of Delta Gamma's rich 150-year history and an investment in its ambitious future. The Campaign's success ensures the organization can continue to provide meaningful experiences, support and opportunities to its members while advancing its broader mission of service and leadership. Construction began this fall on the renovation of Delta Gamma Executive Offices in Columbus, Ohio, including creating the Leadership Training Center and Archives Museum.

Delta Gamma Fraternity Mourns the Loss of Former Fraternity President Loretta Petrucce Roselle

It is with profound sadness we share the passing of former Fraternity President Loretta “Laurie” Petrucce Roselle, Beta Iota-Purdue. Laurie left this world peacefully on August 9, 2024. Laurie was a vibrant force of nature when it came to motivating, inspiring and supporting both Delta Gamma Fraternity and the Delta Gamma Foundation. She is best characterized as passionate, high energy, caring, determined, thoughtful and giving. Up until the very end, her smile was infectious, and her determination to succeed in every endeavor she tackled was genuine and remarkable.

Former Fraternity President Maureen Sweeney Syring, Nu-Idaho, who met Laurie when she was a collegian, said, “You never know how our two words, do good, may touch another’s heart. Laurie never stopped believing that. She never stopped doing good.”

Laurie was involved in Delta Gamma from day one, often leading the way and setting an example for generations of sisters. When she lived in New York, she served as Province Collegiate Chairman and Regional Director, among other leadership roles. After moving back to Indiana, she started eight years of Fraternity Council service: four years as Council Trustee: Communications, two years as Council Trustee: Fraternity Programming, and then as Fraternity President from 2012-14. She served four years as a member of the Foundation Board of Trustees.

As a testament to her unwavering devotion to Delta Gamma and her greater community, Laurie was one of only two members to receive every Fraternity award, recognizing extraordinary contributions in leadership, philanthropy and loyalty. In 2022, she received the Order of the Delta Gamma Rose, Delta Gamma's highest recognition, given to alumnae who have made notable contributions to the world or their country. Many of her efforts centered on people who are blind or have low vision community through the Foundation, yet her heart extended well beyond the basics, always taking everything to a higher level. Whether collecting prom dresses for under-privileged high schoolers, running a silent auction to fund a suite at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital or managing a trivia night to benefit Visually Impaired Pre-school Services (VIPS), Laurie took immense joy in seeing others benefit from her boundless energy.

As described in her award nomination for the Catherine Stuart Schmoker Principled Leadership Award, “She doesn’t merely participate, she orchestrates, plants seeds and creates. ... In between the multitude of extensive projects she juggles simultaneously, her mind is always in overdrive, whether volunteering or donating from her own coffers, asking others to follow suit, or continually seeking donation items for the plethora of her infamous auctions.”

When Laurie was diagnosed with ALS in 2021, the outpouring of love, affection and support she received was a true reflection of the many lives she had touched. She will be forever remembered for her handwritten notes, cards and special gifts for both family and friends that were always thoughtful and much appreciated. This devotion was continued by helpful and loyal friends when Laurie could no longer write yet still wanted to reach out.

Our most heartfelt condolences go out to her husband of 42 years, John, her family of doting siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. Read the obituary here.
