Celebrate a Sister: Individual Alumnae Award Nominations Are Open

Every Delta Gamma knows a sister whose impact deserves to be celebrated.

Maybe she’s the adviser who has spent years helping collegiate women become confident leaders. Maybe she’s the glue that holds your alumnae group together. Perhaps she’s making a remarkable impact in her profession or dedicating her talents to making her community a better place.

The Individual Alumnae Awards (IAA) give us an opportunity to recognize these outstanding Delta Gammas — and nominations are now open through October 31.

There’s an Award for Many Ways to Do Good

Delta Gamma’s Individual Alumnae Awards recognize both service to the Fraternity and accomplishments beyond DG.

The Hope, Cable and Loyalty Awards recognize personal devotion and extraordinary service to Delta Gamma. Hope recognizes a minimum of five years of service, Cable a minimum of 10 years and Loyalty a minimum of 20 years and requires the nominee to have previously received the Cable Award.

The Anchor Award recognizes lifetime devotion to Delta Gamma and achievements that have made a unique and lasting impact on members throughout the Fraternity.

Beyond Fraternity service, the Shield Award recognizes unique and noteworthy professional accomplishments, while the Oxford Award celebrates outstanding volunteer and philanthropic service to the community.

The Order of the Delta Gamma Rose, Delta Gamma’s highest award, honors alumnae whose distinguished contributions to the nation and/or world have earned inter(national) recognition. Unlike the other awards, nominations for the Order of the Delta Gamma Rose are accepted year-round.

New Resources Make Nominating Easier

Not sure where to begin? Several resources are available this year to help you identify deserving sisters and prepare a strong nomination.

Find sisters who may be eligible. Alumnae groups can use a new report available under Reports in Anchorbase to identify members in their region who may be eligible for recognition. It’s a great place to start a conversation within your group about the women whose service deserves to be celebrated.

Find the right people to tell her story. Strong letters of impact are an important part of every nomination. But the best letter writers may not always be the people you know personally. The historical officer report, referenced in the IAA Submission Guide, can help identify former leaders who served alongside your nominee throughout her DG journey and may be able to speak to her impact.

See what makes a strong letter. New this year, the IAA Submission Guide includes sample letters for both service-based and professional/volunteer awards. The examples demonstrate how writers can go beyond listing positions or accomplishments to share specific stories, results and examples of the nominee’s impact.

Focus Your Efforts on Telling Her Story

The awards application remains streamlined so nominators can focus their biggest efforts on gathering meaningful letters and sharing the nominee’s impact. A member’s profile will continue to showcase calculated years of known Fraternity service, and nominators can validate that service and add missing information as part of the application.

And you don’t have to have everything perfect before you begin. Start gathering information and letters early, and remember that a submitted application can be edited through the October 31 deadline if you need to add or update information.

Who Will You Recognize?

Think about the Delta Gammas who have made a difference in your chapter, alumnae group, community, profession or life. Recognition starts when one sister takes the time to say, her contributions matter.

Review the Individual Alumnae Awards Submission Guide in the DG Library for award requirements, nomination instructions, tips and sample letters.

Then, submit your nomination by October 31 at members.deltagamma.org/IAA.
