Delta Gamma Fraternity was founded in 1873 in Oxford, Mississippi, at Lewis School by three young women: Anna Boyd, Mary Comfort and Eva Webb. Founded before the term sorority was used, our Fraternity has since grown into one of the largest international women’s organizations, with more than 280,000 initiated members, 148 collegiate chapters and 170 alumnae groups.
Anna Boyd, Mary Comfort and Eva Webb created Delta Gamma as a literary society and as a club of “mutual helpfulness”. Since then, the Do Good Sisterhood has grown into an international organization with over 280,000 members.
Since our Fraternity-wide philanthropy was chosen in 1936, Delta Gammas have been stewards for sight. Today, the Delta Gamma Foundation supports the five Delta Gamma Schools for Children with Visual Impairments and organizations across North America that share our Service for Sight mission. In 2024-25, $925,000 was given through Service for Sight grants and more than 200,000 service hours were logged by collegians and alumnae.
