After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in drama Particia moved to New York to pursue her acting career. In these early years she founded the acting troupe Stage Three. Soon she was landing appearances on TV shows including Thirtysomething, Alien Nation and Matlock. Throughout the 1990s she appeared in many TV shows and movies including the hit family comedy, Beethoven.  

In 1996 she was cast in the role of Debra Barone in the CBS sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. The series was a smash hit. She was nominated for and won many awards for her performance including winning the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress and the Viewers for Quality Television Awards for Best Actress in a Quality Comedy Series. At the same time, she continued to be involved with many other projects from other TV shows to Hallmark movies.  In 2009 she began starring in the television show The Middle which aired for nine seasons. In 2011 she was ranked by TV Guide as #24 on their Funniest Women on TV list. In 2015 she began hosting a cooking show Patricia Heaton Parties which won a Daytime Emmy Ward for Outstanding Culinary Program.Â
