FHC has 131 Clients

The Delta Gamma Fraternity Housing Corporation (FHC) is proud to announce it now serves 131 clients! Our newest client is Beta Delta. For more information about how FHC can assist your chapter, contact FHC Program Director Mandy Reymann at mandyr@deltagamma.org.

FHC began in the fall of 1989. It became obvious at that time that in order to attract and retain volunteers, particularly in the area of housing, there needed to be a consistent accounting program that kept up-to-date with IRS, state and employment related issues as well as followed Delta Gamma policies and procedures.

FHC started with 12 clients and was initially a property owned and run program. In 1995, FHC changed to a fee-for-service program that did not own property but rather performed time-consuming, technical tasks for a price well below market value. This gained in popularity and grew rapidly over the next ten years necessitating the staff and functionality of FHC to double.

At this time, all but 17 of the Delta Gamma house corporations are on our books. We have a staff of nine who take care of our clients in everything from paying vendor bills, collecting fees from chapter members, processing payroll, filing all tax forms, balancing bank accounts and sending out monthly financials. The ability to pick up the phone or e-mail one of the FHC staff members whenever there is a housing related question or concern is one of the main benefits FHC clients enjoy.

The Delta Gamma Fraternity Housing Corporation is one-of-a-kind within the Panhellenic world and we are very proud to have such a viable and successful program. For more information, contact FHC Program Director Mandy Reymann at mandyr@deltagamma.org or call FHC at 614.487.5599.

revised by SHK Thursday, January 19, 2012

DG and TOMS!

Delta Gamma and TOMS have partnered to bring you an amazing opportunity to buy TOMS eyewear and benefit your chapter and DG’s philanthropy at the same time! The Great Fight for Sight was created especially for Delta Gamma, and will culminate with TOMS announcing alumnae and collegiate winners at Convention 2012 in Indianapolis. This promotion was inspired by Delta Lambda chapter at Mississippi State who showcased TOMS eyewear during their philanthropy round of recruitment. (See the video here.)

Here are the highlights:

This program is for alumnae and collegians, and features both eyewear and educational components.

There are two ways to purchase - individually online (be sure to provide your chapter/group code!) and via a "trunk" show (much like charity denim).

TOMS has a ton of tools that individuals and chapters can use to promote this, including materials that promote our philanthropy.

The One-For-One principal applies AND our Foundation benefits, too.

Great PR for recruitment and in the community

There are exciting incentives for collegiate and alumnae chapters like cash, merchandise and trips.

Beta Psi Chapter Installed

Delta Gamma installed at the University of Alabama, welcomes 207 newly initiated members

Columbus, Ohio—November 2011—Delta Gamma Fraternity is pleased to announce the reinstallation of Beta Psi chapter at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, becoming the sixteenth NPC group to join the established Panhellenic system on campus. On November 12, Delta Gamma representatives initiated 207 women into Beta Psi-Alabama chapter of Delta Gamma.

"On behalf of the Council of Delta Gamma Fraternity, it was my honor to pin the Golden Anchor badge on each of the new members during the ceremony and to present our 147th chapter its charter at the Installation celebration,” said Delta Gamma International Fraternity President Beth Bell Searcy. “The event captured the pride of being the largest colonization in Fraternity history, the emotion of the alumnae who have waited for this homecoming since 1978, and the satisfaction of seeing incredible teamwork translate ‘Do Good’ into a bright future of hope at the University of Alabama.”

To commemorate the weekend, family members, university dignitaries, campus representatives, Delta Gamma volunteers, original Beta Psi members, Delta Gamma Council officers and collegians from Zeta Nu-Montevallo and Eta Eta-Spring Hill, gathered to celebrate at the North Zone in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Delta Gamma was pleased to have speakers, Dr. Kathleen Cramer, Senior Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, and Dr. Lowell Davis, Assistant Dean of Students, on hand to offer keynote addresses for the momentous occasion. Beta Psi chapter president Kayla Fields proudly accepted the charter and was installed with the president’s badge and gavel. Fields shared, “This has been such a whirlwind experience, but I already feel at home in Delta Gamma and can feel bonds of sisterhood already. I can’t wait to see what the future will bring.”

After an accomplished fall semester of sisterhood events—Beta Psi placed second in the choreography competition for Homecoming and a member was awarded with a second place finish in the Miss Sorority Row competition—Delta Gamma’s newest chapter has a full calendar of activities planned for the rest of the 2011-12 academic year. Beta Psi is excited to partner with Focus First, located in Tuscaloosa, a program that gives eye examinations to children in urban and rural communities in Alabama. The chapter will also participate in officer training, a chapter retreat, sisterhood events, social events, philanthropy and community awareness events and weekly dinners. Two full-time consultants will reside on campus for the majority of the school year to offer assistance and advisory support. Next fall, 60 members will reside in a 34,800 square-foot house, currently being constructed, on the corner of Magnolia Drive and Sixth Avenue. Members will enjoy state-of-the-art amenities, including spacious living areas, study rooms, porches and patios.

Searcy concludes, “A strong, well-rounded group of student leaders and scholars comprise this chapter, and we have every confidence the outstanding women who accepted our membership will contribute significantly to the Greek system at Alabama and will shine as Delta Gamma’s 147th chapter in North America.”

About Delta Gamma Fraternity: Founded in 1873, Delta Gamma is an international fraternity, consisting of more than 200,000 members. A leader among Greek organizations, Delta Gamma is dedicated to promoting educational and cultural interests and creating a true sense of social responsibility. Through the nationally recognized philanthropy, Service for Sight; award-winning publication, The ANCHORA of Delta Gamma and lauded risk management programming, Delta Gamma is committed to instilling the best qualities of character.

For more information, contact:
Megan M.
Eleven Sorority Leaders participate in Leadership & Service Immersion Program in New Orleans, LA

FORT COLLINS, CO. – Eleven sorority student leaders from campuses across the United States and Canada started their summer vacation off strong as they spent time working and learning in New Orleans, LA. These women put their fraternal values into action while exploring their own personal values.

Student leaders spent time working with Habitat for Humanity assisting on the construction of a home for a family affected by Hurricane Katrina. In the years since the hurricane, Habit for Humanity’s New Orleans affiliate has built over 450 homes with volunteers from around the globe. The women also spent time learning about the history and culture of New Orleans and exploring historic landmarks.
Members of Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Sigma Tau, Delta Gamma (Kimberly Reedy, Gamma Omicron - Indiana State, Annie Taal, Beta Beta-Alberta and Lauren Smoot, Gamma Lambda-California State University, Fresno ), Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Delta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Phi Mu, Phi Sigma Sigma and Sigma Kappa participated in this experience, jointly hosted by the Association of Fraternal Leadership & Values and The Leadership Institute – Women with Purpose.

The students blogged about their experiences throughout the week. More information about their personal stories can be found on http://www.aflv.blogspot.com. Photos can be found here: http://aflvliwwpneworleans2011.shutterfly.com/.

One trip participant stated, “While building I was constantly moving, helping, and talking. The entire week at the build challenged my energy and provoked my mind. It was the ultimate way to fulfill myself, because I was helping to fulfill others. I learned more about my ability to work on a team and handle my frustration. A small incident could have given me reason to give up, but I knew there was only reason to keep going. The build allowed me to reflect on my college and Greek career and recognize those times I may have given up.” Another trip participant added, “This week I realized how truly blessed I am to even call myself a college student. Yesterday we had the chance to see a woman have her Habitat for Humanity house dedicated to her and it changed my outlook on everything. For most of this week I deemed my contributions to the house insignificant and small, but seeing someone cry from joy over her home was such a humbling experience.” Finally, another women shared, “I think tonight’s curriculum was my favorite of all. We discussed our action plans in accordance with what we’ve already been discussing. I had an incredible conversation about where I want to take my chapter, making a plan of how to do that and also how I can better show my weaknesses and needs to my chapter. It’s only been about an hour and a half and I already have a million ideas running through my head! I am so excited to finish out the rest of the week and see what great things happen!”

The Association of Fraternal Leadership & Values is a 501 (c)3 organization that exists to stimulate the growth and development of fraternity/sorority council and chapter leaders by promoting leadership, educational, and values based experiences and resources for student leaders, their advisors, and the larger fraternal market. The Association of Fraternal Leadership & Values (AFLV) is the showcase for cutting-edge Fraternity/Sorority programming, technology, thinking, and concepts. For more information please visit the Association website at http://www.aflv.org.

The Leadership Institute – Women with Purpose Inc. was organized by the Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity and the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation as a 501 (c)(3) organization. The Leadership Institute – Women with Purpose helps women reach their potential by providing the tools to develop personal and professional leadership skills. The organization is committed to building a community of learners with whom to exchange ideas, experiences and resources.
DG Collegiate Chapters Taking Technology to the Next Level

We are excited to announce Delta Gamma’s partnership with Group Interactive Networks (GIN) http://www.ginsystem.com. GIN is a Gainesville, Florida-based technology company that provides Web-based and Facebook tools to fraternities and sororities around the country (1500+ chapters).

What does that mean for our collegiate chapters?
Each chapter will have an online members-only system (called the GIN System) for chapter communication. They will also have access to a custom Facebook page tab that can be added to their chapter’s page in Facebook.

What is the GIN System?
The GIN System members-only section brings chapter communication online. Everything needed to manage the chapter and connect with members can be found in one central place, and can be accessed any time. When officers need to share an announcement, remind everyone about a billing due date, poll the chapter about a social event or have a philanthropy sign up, you can do that, and more, online, in GIN.

GIN has online calendars with automatic text and email reminders which will be available fall 2011, file sharing, points tracking, mass text messaging, discussion boards and more. Chapter information will be available online through the GIN System, using the GIN Facebook application, or even on an iPhone/iTouch/iPad. GIN is private to each chapter with each member using her myDG username and password from www.deltagamma.org to log in to the system.

Fan Page Tab in Facebook
The Delta Gamma Facebook page tab will give each chapter’s page a unique Facebook presence and will allow us to share DG information with potential members and others who find us in Facebook.
Kevin O’Neill is First Recipient of the Compass Award

Compass Award honors non-members of Delta Gamma Fraternity for remarkable achievement in advancing the interfraternal movement.

Delta Gamma Fraternity honored Kevin O’Neill with the Compass Award, recognizing his extraordinary leadership and service as a founder, first President, and current Executive Director of the Fraternity and Sorority Political Action Committee (FSPAC). O’Neill mobilized the forces of interfraternal leaders toward civic engagement and legislative awareness by helping to create a structure for fraternal organizations to champion issues critical to our future such as right to exist, single-gender status, safe student housing, college affordability and tax parity.

Delta Gamma Fraternity President Beth Bell Searcy and FSPAC Board of Director Vicki Vannoy Nixon presented the award to O’Neill on April 11, 2011, at the National Interfraternity Conference (NIC) annual meeting during Congressional Visit team training with 230 collegiate and alumni interfraternal leaders observing.

Searcy remarked, “By creating the Compass Award, Delta Gamma seeks to celebrate partnerships and highlight extraordinary contributions to the interfraternal movement. Kevin's conceptual development of government relations was groundbreaking, and his leadership focused our formative efforts in public policy advocacy. He drew fraternity and sorority leaders' attention to the critical need to share our story in Washington and positioned us to leverage our power as private, single-gender, values-based social organizations. His influence and impact is remarkable. Delta Gamma is proud he is our first Compass Award recipient."

O’Neill is a graduate of Syracuse University and the College of William and Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law. He began his career as Director of Chapter Services with Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Presently, he is an attorney and lobbyist for Patton Boggs LLP, and as the Deputy Chairman of the Patton Boggs public policy department, he is the youngest partner of the firm. In 2009, the National Law Journal-Legal Times named O’Neill to its list of “40 Under 40: Washington’s Rising Stars.”
Nixon added, “Kevin’s work in this effort has been entirely pro-bono, donating thousands of hours since 2001 to establish and propel this government relations effort. His vision and commitment to the future of the fraternity and sorority experience is exceptional.”

Upon its founding in 2005, O’Neill said of the FSPAC, “The PAC’s primary goal is to support (legislators) in the United States House and Senate who help preserve and improve the fraternal experience.” Today, the FSPAC is the largest PAC focused solely on higher education issues. It has made contributions to a bipartisan slate of more than 100 candidates in its first four years of operations and more than 90% of those candidates won their elections. Of particular note is that in 2006, it supported the election of three sorority women in their first runs for Congress.

Through the nationally recognized philanthropy, Service for Sight; award winning publication, The ANCHORA of Delta Gamma and lauded risk management programming, Delta Gamma is committed to instilling the best qualities of character.
