Recruitment and sponsorship of potential new members is a combined effort! All Delta Gamma members are asked to help with this process to continue the strong legacy of the Fraternity. This area of the Web site contains helpful tools and resources available for you, whether you are a collegian or an alumna member.
How do I obtain a Delta Gamma Sponsor Form?A Delta Gamma Sponsor Form can be downloaded
here (*as a pdf which may be completed electronically) or may be found in the summer issue of the
ANCHORA.
If you prefer, download a Sponsor Form as a Word document
here.
*Note: if you have difficulty with the Adobe Acrobat version, you likely need to upgrade your Adobe Reader by visiting Adobe.com. If you still have trouble with the form, contact SponsorForms@deltagamma.org to have a form e-mailed to you.
How can I find out the formal recruitment dates of a specific Delta Gamma collegiate chapter and determine where to send my Sponsor Form?
Recruitment dates and the mailing addresses can be found here on our new recruitment directory and in the summer issue of the ANCHORA.
How can I find out if a potential member from my area has been sponsored?
Each Delta Gamma alumnae chapter has an officer responsible for Sponsor Forms for her area. These women serve as City Sponsorship Chairmen. In addition, for areas not covered by alumnae chapters, an alumna within the state covers those areas. She serves as the State Sponsorship Chairman. Click here for a complete list of sponsorship chairmen throughout North America.
Where can I find (or my chapter find) the international recruitment t-shirt?
The international recruitment t-shirt is now available! Go to
http://www.deltagammastore.com
(search 9RT2) to get yours now! Congrats to Chelsea Lee, Mu-Missouri, for creating the design and winning the t-shirt contest. GO DG! Modeling the t-shirt in the image below are collegians from Alpha Nu chapter at USC. The back of the t-shirt is featured in the accompanying photo.
The purpose of a Sponsor Form is to give collegiate chapter members information on a potential new member (PNM) who will be participating in recruitment.
There are three types of sponsorship:
- Voluntary: This is when you voluntarily complete a Sponsor Form for a woman that you know personally. Examples may include a close friend of the family or a student with whom you have worked.
- Requested: This is when a collegiate chapter or alumnae group requests information on a woman who lives in your area. You may not personally know her, but know someone who does. Or you may not have known that she was participating in recruitment until you were contacted.
- Information Only: This is when you may only have information but no acquaintance with the potential new member. In this case you may have her high school and GPA credentials, but have no knowledge of personal character and behavior. Your signature is not required on this type of Sponsor Form.
Tips for Writing a Sponsor Form
- Before writing the Sponsor Form, review and gather information on the PNM; include a picture if possible.
- The more information you provide the more useful the form will be. Remember, in most cases the Sponsor Form is the first contact the chapter has with a PNM. Your personal comments and examples are invaluable.
- Type or print clearly.
- You are encouraged to submit the Sponsor Form electronically to the collegiate chapter via email. Follow up with a hard copy by mail or fax.
- Be as descriptive as possible when filling out a Sponsor Form. For example, it is important to let the evaluating committee know if a woman is shy, reserved or assertive so they can plan a recruitment strategy.
- Highlight and underscore outstanding potential.
- Be prompt in submitting your form.
- If you know grades and activities, but not personality or character and you are not comfortable signing the Sponsor Form, check the box for "information only" so the chapter can work on other sponsors. However, if you hear from a reliable source that she meets all five points of the star, sign the Sponsor Form.
- If you can't find any information on a PNM and you have exhausted your resources, let the chapter evaluating committee know immediately.
- If you have concerns about a PNM and you do not wish to sponsor her, check the appropriate box and state if you would like a phone contact with the collegiate recruitment adviser. You may share your substantiated, general concerns with her and should do so as soon as possible.
o Verified specifics may be stated, not written, to the adviser only. Such information is not to be released to the collegians under any circumstance.
o Give the woman the benefit of the doubt and let the chapter make the decision unless you have first-hand information. The chapter may have received other Sponsor Forms that are positive.
o Ultimately, the decision rests with the chapter.
o Delta Gamma chapters pledge women on the five points of the star and their chapter's membership goals.
Who is a Legacy?
In Delta Gamma, a legacy is defined as a daughter, stepdaughter, granddaughter, step-granddaughter, sister or stepsister of an initiated member.
What is the Legacy Policy?
- A legacy shall be invited to a minimum of one invitational round of events (regardless of Sponsor Form status) assuming the chapter release/carry figures and Panhellenic rules allow.
Please note that, on some campuses, recruitment numbers do not allow the collegiate chapter to invite all legacies to the first invitational round.
This is the only Fraternity policy pertaining to legacies.
Fraternity Procedures for Legacies
- As with all potential new members, legacies should meet the five points of the Delta Gamma Membership Star as well as the chapter’s Membership Selection Criteria. Any legacy meeting these criteria should be given additional special consideration as stated in the chapter standing rules.
- If a legacy is invited to preference, her name will be placed on the chapter’s first bid list.
- If the chapter has received a Sponsor Form on a legacy, and if the Sponsor Form indicates that the relative wishes to be notified, the chapter adviser must contact the Delta Gamma sponsor if the legacy is released.
Please Sponsor Your Legacy
You are encouraged to submit a Sponsor Form for your legacy to the collegiate chapter on the campus where she will participate in recruitment. Even though she is registered in the Anchor Girl program, you still need to alert the chapter that your legacy is coming and indicate your notification preference.
Tips:
- Send your Sponsor Form at least one month prior to recruitment.
- You can find information about recruitment dates and chapter contacts on myDG. Look under Resources for Everyone and click on Recruitment and Sponsorship. There you will find the Sponsor Form as well as a list of where to send the form once it has been completed.
for hope, for strength, for life…. Many Delta Gamma legacies can already relate to our message: Hope for the future, strength in our chapters, and another special bond for life with their relative who is also a Delta Gamma. The purpose of the Anchor Girl program is to recognize your legacies and increase your awareness of our Fraternity’s legacy policies and procedures.
How to Register Your Anchor Girl
- On your myDG page, click on "Edit my Page" and select "My Legacies" at the bottom of the left hand column.
- On the registration page, fill in the appropriate information and submit. You'll be able to register multiple legacies.
- Once you've completed the registration process, you may add "My Legacies" to your myDG page. Just return to "Edit my Page," look under "My Layout" and click the box for "My Legacies." (Note: only the names of your legacies will appear to other myDG users even though their profiles are completely visible to you.)
For technical questions about registering your Anchor Girl, contact dgwebmaster@deltagamma.org. For any other question, contact anchorgirl@deltagamma.org.
