Alcohol
Procedures
- An Event
Checklist must be completed for social events. Activities, scheduled
or non-scheduled, taking place prior to or immediately following the
stated time for the event on the checklist will generally be considered
a continuation of the party. Out of town events are generally discouraged.
Social events that include the service of alcoholic beverages must
be approved through the Fraternity's Event Checklist procedures. The
event checklist document can be obtained online at: http://www.deltagamma.org/forms/ec_form.doc.
A planning guide for such events is also online: http://www.deltagamma.org/forms/ec_plan.doc.
- Buses
must be provided for all attendees and dates at chapter expense to
and from an event. All attendees and dates must ride the bus provided.
- Alcoholic
beverages may not be served or consumed on a bus.
- A cash
bar, provided by the party establishment and staffed by a licensed
bartender, may be held outside the room where the event is taking
place for those members/new members/guests who are of legal drinking
age and who have the proper identification. Alcohol may not
be brought into the social event area. Note: In states that do not
license individual bartenders, a non-member (minimum age - 25 years
old) of any sponsoring/co-sponsoring group or a hired caterer may
dispense the alcohol as bartender.
- The
vice-president: social standards shall furnish the party establishment
with a list of members'/new members'/guests' names who are of legal
drinking age. The licensed bartender (see note above) must check IDs
and this list prior to selling alcohol.
- Functions
are "By Invitation Only" for Delta Gammas and their guests
with a list prepared and posted and copies supplied to advisers.
- The
chapter hires security to maintain the environment appropriate to
a Delta Gamma function.
- Once
a member/new member or guest leaves a party, he/she shall not be allowed
to return to the party.
- Party
themes should focus on positive entertainment, not on alcohol.
- Honor
Board and the Chapter Management Team must carefully communicate to
the chapter their thoughtful plans to address any inappropriate social
behavior most especially regarding the use/abuse of alcohol and drugs
among members/new members and guests at group functions. Example:
If a guest becomes intoxicated, the establishment will serve no more
alcohol and transportation home for the guest will be provided.
- Delta
Gammas will be held responsible for their guests' behavior at social
functions.
- Non-salted
foods in ample quantities (vegetables/fruit and dip, cheese and crackers,
chicken nuggets, sandwiches, meat and cheese) must be available at
all times.
- Non-alcoholic
beverages (soft drinks, spring water, punch) must be available at
all times and in sufficient quantity to serve all participants. Beverages
should be served from their original containers into individual cups;
avoid serving from any large open container such as a punch bowl.
- All
social events must be controlled by careful monitoring. Steps to be
taken may include serving coffee and food and discontinuing the service
of alcohol at a specific time.
